Built on family, forged through hard work, and driven by a commitment to doing things the right way - this is the story of how Aboo Construction came to be.

Where It Started
Every builder has an origin, and ours begins with Nuway Construction – the company founded by Samir Assaf that laid the groundwork for everything that would come next. Under Samir’s leadership, Nuway built a diverse portfolio of projects, including MC Sports, The Sheridan Apartments in Chicago, and Park Heights by the Lake in Chicago. It was here that the values of craftsmanship, integrity, and hard work took root – values that would carry forward into the next chapter of this family’s story in construction.
A New Path
In 2021, after graduating and beginning his career at Langan Engineering, Abdullah Assaf made the decision to step out and build something of his own. That same year, he founded Aboo Construction – setting out to establish a company built on his own vision, work ethic, and determination to earn every project on its merits.

Full Circle
In 2022, Samir Assaf closed Nuway Construction and joined his son at Aboo Construction – bringing decades of experience together with Abdullah’s drive and ambition under one roof. What began as two separate paths became one shared mission: to build a construction company rooted in family, integrity, and quality craftsmanship.
Building Momentum
Aboo Construction’s first projects came in 2021, when the company was selected as General Contractor for a dual-project concept: the Discount Rugs and Furniture Store in Matteson, Illinois, and a warehouse renovation in South Chicago Heights. From there, the company was awarded the carpentry package for Ross Dress for Less and Victoria’s Secret in Dublin, Ohio.
Momentum continued to build in 2022, when Aboo Construction became the first general contractor in Starbucks’ history to build a drive-thru-only location connected to a gas station, completed in Waterford, Connecticut. The company went on to be awarded the carpentry package for six Outback Steakhouse locations across Illinois, Ohio, Connecticut, and Maryland, followed by a growing list of both carpentry and general contracting projects – including Athlete’s Foot, VCA Animal Hospital, Andy’s Frozen Custard, and Cheddar’s.
Aboo Construction became the first GC in Starbucks’ history to build a drive-thru-only location connected to a gas station — completed in 2022 in Waterford, Connecticut.
What started with one company has grown into a family of businesses – Aboo Construction, Thrive Development, Aboo Roofing, and the Assaf Organization.
Growing the Family of Companies
As Aboo Construction grew, so did the family of companies behind it. Thrive Development was founded in 2023, taking on the 4343 Matteson Building Renovation as its first project. In 2024, Aboo Roofing was established, completing two residential roof renovations in its first year. And in 2025, the Assaf Organization was formed to bring all of these companies together under one unified structure – a single organization built on the same foundation of family and craftsmanship.
Our First Major Project
In 2025, Aboo Construction took on its first major project: building a School/YMCA facility for the IFN Community. It marked a new chapter for the company – a step into larger-scale, community-focused construction that reflects everything Aboo Construction has built toward since day one.
